NCsoft spend a couple of years on developing the game at their software design studio in South Korea. Closed beta testing in Korea in late 2007 is followed by an open beta testing in November 2008. According to Chinese culture, a new version of the game will begin its closed beta testing in December 2008 after open beta testing on April l8, 2009, and can be finished on April 18, 2009. The game is also being remade according western markets such as North America, Europe, and Australia.
Two open beta testing events have be hold in June, 2009 by NCSoft. Each of them focused on certain levels. The first paid its attention on the Elyos from level 1 through 20 while the second cast its eyes on level 1 to 10 for the Asmodians. However, both factions are allowed to be open to level 10 at last. Four more open beta events are in the schedule on weekends spanning through July and August 2009.
